We spent another wonderful weekend at the Varnells' cabin this past weekend to celebrate our third anniversary. We kayaked both days and it was great. We drove up Friday evening after work. The cabin sits right on the east side of the east fork of little river above the dam. On Saturday we took the kayak and paddled to the dam just south and west of the cabin and played in the creek below, which Riley just loved. She was so funny zooming around the water and splashing and playing. After her little adventure she was much braver in the boat, and even climbed up onto the top in the front and guided the way! After playing at the dam, we paddled north to where Hwy 117 crosses the river. We cooked out hamburgers on the grill for lunch and lazed away the rest of the day swimming and sunning on the dock, reading, and playing with Riley. On Sunday we ventured out in the kayak again, this time west on the fork until the river turned into a rocky creekbed and we couldn't paddle any further. We encountered a flock of geese, a rogue duck (who loves popcorn) a couple turtles and plenty of fish. We had a wonderful time and can't think of a nicer way to celebrate 3 years together than a quiet romantic weekend away enjoying the beauty of God's creation!
